00:01 If you're unimpressed with Bitcoin's 00:03 performance in your portfolio, there is 00:05 a 100% chance that you bought Bitcoin 00:08 very recently. Uh so Bitcoin is the 00:11 highest it's ever been in human history 00:14 right now at 110,000 other than the last 00:18 100 days. So all the Bitcoin you ever 00:22 bought other than the last 100 days is 00:25 in the money. meaning you are up on any 00:27 Bitcoin investment other than the last 00:30 100 days. But what if you invested 00:32 before the last 100 days, let's call it 00:35 super late in November or in the first 00:37 half of 2025, and you're feeling like, 00:40 okay, but I'm only up 10% or I'm only up 00:43 20%. So, the reason for that is it's 00:46 just a function of patience. Bitcoin 00:48 tends to go where it grinds sideways for 00:52 some prolonged period of time, then it 00:54 sort of resets to a significantly higher 00:57 price, then it grinds sideways for a 00:59 significant period of time. So last year 01:02 for eight months, between the middle of 01:04 March and early uh November, so it was 01:07 between 7 and a half and 8 months. Let's 01:10 call it about eight months from roughly 01:11 the middle of of March to the middle of 01:13 November. Um although it was technically 01:16 like first week of November, second week 01:17 of November, something like that. 01:19 Anyway, Bitcoin essentially traded in 01:22 the same range of 70 $55,000 to $70,000. 01:26 55270 01:28 55,000 to $70,000. And there was a bunch 01:31 of people who bought Bitcoin for the 01:33 first time in that range. Their first 01:36 Bitcoin had been bought at 68,000 64,000 01:39 62,000. There were some people that 01:41 bought Bitcoin in the 40,000s, but then 01:43 they didn't really make their first big 01:45 purchase until it ran up and it was like 01:47 $72,000. So, there was a lot of people 01:49 that ended up with a cost basis, meaning 01:52 the average price of the Bitcoin they 01:54 bought with a cost basis that was in the 01:58 62 to $68,000 02:01 range. I mean, that just that applied to 02:02 a lot of people. And so, that was a long 02:04 time for a lot of people. Again, when 02:06 the prices are down at 60,000, uh it's 02:08 closer to a 5%, you know, move is five 02:11 or $6,000. Let's call it $6,000. Um I 02:15 should say a $6,000 move on 60,000 is 02:18 10%. A $3,000 move is 5%. Roughly, all 02:21 of those numbers are double now. And so, 02:23 you know, people forget that a few 02:25 thousand actually was a big swing back 02:27 then. But I talked to a lot of people 02:29 who were sort of unimpressed with the, 02:32 you know, the uh performance of their 02:33 Bitcoin investment because they were 02:35 like, "Look, Joel, I mean, I I bought it 02:37 at, you know, 68 and then I bought some 02:39 more at 62. My average is like 64. The 02:42 price is like 66. Like, this is just not 02:45 that impressive." And I'll I'll tell you 02:46 today what I told them then is just give 02:50 it a minute. Just wait a little bit. 02:53 Wait for Bitcoin to do its thing. If you 02:55 bought Bitcoin, a lot of the Bitcoin you 02:57 bought in the last 100 days, you have a 02:59 cost basis that is somewhere in the 03:01 100,000s. Maybe it's 110, maybe it's 03:04 112, maybe it's 105. Um, if you started 03:07 buying last year and you bought the dips 03:09 of this year, you've got a cost basis 03:12 probably 90,000, 95,000, something like 03:14 that. So again, if you bought something, 03:16 give me one second. 03:20 If you bought, if the average price you 03:22 paid for Bitcoin is $95,000 and it's at 03:25 110 and you've sat on it for nine 03:27 months, you might be feeling like, "Hey, 03:29 I thought this was a high octane 03:31 investment. I thought, you know, I 03:32 thought the return on my investment 03:34 would be a lot more than Again, just 03:37 give it time. Be patient. Here's what's 03:39 going to happen. At some point, the the 03:41 future is unknowable. At some point in 03:43 the next weeks or months or whatever, 03:45 Bitcoin will suddenly go from bouncing 03:47 around between 105 to 115 to bouncing 03:51 around between, I don't know, 125 and 03:54 135. And all the people that buy in that 03:57 area up there are going to feel just the 03:59 same way you do now. They're going to be 04:01 like, why doesn't Bitcoin really do 04:02 anything? I bought it at 125 and get 04:06 135. My average basis is 130. It's not 04:09 hanging around at 130. Bitcoin is not 04:11 doing anything. But you of course 04:13 sitting here with a cost basis of 90,000 04:15 or 95 or 105 are going to be thinking 04:17 Bitcoin is pretty great. It's up like 04:19 354%. 04:21 And for some perspective, Bitcoin in the 04:24 last 12 months, I checked right before I 04:26 started this video. In the last 12 04:27 months, Bitcoin is up 105%. 04:30 Meaning, if you had bought Bitcoin 04:32 exactly one year ago, literally one 04:34 year, which don't ever buy an investment 04:36 that you're not willing to hold for at 04:38 least a year, I mean, if you bought it a 04:41 year ago, you're up 105%. You have more 04:44 than doubled any amount of money that 04:46 you put in Bitcoin exactly one year ago 04:49 today. And even if your average cost 04:51 basis uh was, you know, in that 8 months 04:54 bouncing around between 55 and 70,000, 04:57 even if your average was 65 or something 04:59 like that, again, you're still radically 05:01 up. You're not up quite double, but 05:03 you're up 85%, 90%, whatever that is. 05:06 Um, so if you feel like you're not 05:08 impressed with the performance of your 05:10 Bitcoin, give it time. Just give it 05:13 time. And at some point, you'll think, 05:15 "Dang it, I should have bought a whole 05:17 lot more Bitcoin at 110,000. What was I 05:19 thinking? I should have known this was 05:20 going to happen. Now Bitcoin's, you 05:22 know, in the future 145 call it a few 05:25 months from now. And you're like, "Dang 05:26 it, it's 145. Why didn't I buy a bunch 05:28 more $110,000 Bitcoin? Now it's 145." 05:32 Well, then if you actually do buy 145 05:34 $45,000 Bitcoin, you will start feeling 05:36 the same way. You will think, "But wait 05:38 a second. Now it's sort of chilling. Now 05:40 it's not really doing anything. What's 05:42 happening with Bitcoin? Why isn't it 05:44 performing?" And again, it will be 05:46 performing. You just got to be patient 05:47 and understand that look. If you buy it 05:50 at 145, you're going to be waiting a 05:52 while until it's bouncing around at 185 05:54 and then you're going to be feeling 05:55 good. If you bought it at 90,000, you're 05:58 probably feeling amazing at 120, you're 06:00 probably feeling less amazing at 110. So 06:03 no matter what price you pay for 06:04 Bitcoin, time ultimately makes you feel 06:08 amazing about your investment. And 06:09 eventually with Bitcoin, the only thing 06:12 you're going to like about your 06:13 investment is the fact that you feel 06:16 like you should have bought more. So the 06:18 only thing I regret of all the Bitcoin I 06:20 bought at $6,400 and $9,000 and $12,000 06:24 and, you know, $14,000 in 2017 and 2018, 06:28 the only thing I regret about that 06:29 Bitcoin is that I did not buy way more 06:31 Bitcoin, $9,000 and 11,000 and 14,000 06:35 because I wish I had. You wish I bit 06:37 Bitcoin at every price below today's 06:40 price. And one day you will feel the 06:41 exact same way. And all the people that 06:44 are new to Bitcoin will be lamenting the 06:46 fact that they got in at 145 and it's 06:48 been 6 months and it's not going 06:50 anywhere. And then they'll wait and then 06:51 it'll go to 185 and then it'll go to 210 06:55 and they'll finally feel good about it. 06:56 It's just the way it is with every 06:58 investment. It's not unique to Bitcoin. 06:60 Every investment is like that. Patience 07:02 solves everything in investing. As long 07:04 as you're investing in the right asset, 07:06 Bitcoin is absolutely the right asset.
